What can we achieve in 2021?

The organisers of the Cheadle Arts Festival had a zoom meeting last week to discuss our options for this year and essentially we still think we can achieve something in June, even if might be a bit different to all our hopes for last year. Overall, it is still our intention to support creativity in the community - increasing participation and enjoyment of all types of art-based activity. It is good to be able to showcase what Cheadle has to offer in terms of its local artists, creative groups and shops.

One of the really popular elements to the Cheadle Arts Festival is what we call High Street Gallery - this is the fortnight when local shops and premises include artwork pieces in their windows displays.

Over the last couple of years we have started to focus on how art is for everyone, drawing attention to the therapeutic nature of creative activities. Little did we know that during the last 12 months, creative endeavours would prove to be such a life-line for so many people. So we shall aim to continue this message in 2021, signposting people to groups and organisations that provide art-based activities. Having groups to display their art works in shop windows has been an excellent way of us achieving this aim.

We know that local people really enjoy the High Street Gallery displays and come into town specially to see them all. However, we are also mindful of what a difficult time it has been for many retailers. So we have asked local retailers for their opinion on us organising High Street Gallery again this June.
